Well, I can reach out and touch three at the moment. The Autek is pretty nice
and would be a lot nicer if better quality pots with more turns were used
for the main and bandspread tuning. Even with the aggravating tendancy to jump
50 or 100 khz when you touch a knob they are still the best you can get for
tower climbing.
Assuming you get a good one, the MFJ is also quite nice. As long as you
stay on the ground! Getting the tuning in the ballpark is easy - as is
sweeping
an antenna for resonance and the like. For the less direct measurements,
determining the length of an unknown length of coax for example, remember to
put
your brain in gear before you take the results for granted. The results are
good enough - the conclusions reached from them can lead you far astray.
With either - buy a spare battery before a serious work session with the
Autek, a couple of sets if you choose the MFJ. They will go dead at the most
awkward possible time.
