There are plastic covers for TO 3 cased power transistors to prevent this problem of shorting the cases in the future. I would bet on a 723 or similar 3 terminal power regulator internal to the supply having failed. Those in Astrons make good lightning surge fuses, and maybe the supply in this case is a similar linear regulated type. -Stuart |
