Timely post.
At the Dayton Hamvention yesterday, MFJ had a table selling discontinued
items. One of the items was some NOS (new old stock) Telex 'Contester' boom
headsets. I have used Telex headsets in the past and couldn't pass up
picking up one. Upon getting home, I discovered that there was no
documentation in my box (may not have been in any box), so I did some
research on the web. It turns out that these are 600 ohm headsets. I hooked
mine up to my Omni VI and it received fine (I need to get some on the air
reports for tx). One feature I found out was that the mic is turned off when
you pivot the boom up out of the way. The mic does not need any bias
voltage, so it must not be an electret. The headphones are mono.
However, I find that my Heil ProSet plus has spoiled me and I probably won't
be using this as much as I had originally thought. If someone would like
mine for their Scout or other 600 ohm radio let me know. I paid $45 plus tax
(total $47.92). I will sell it for $50 including shipping CONUS. As supplied
the headset had just leads and you have to supply your own connectors. I've
soldered connectors to on to check it out, but they can be removed if you
want it in original condition.
73,
Mark
