ARe you SURE the 5 pin DIN plug won't go in the 8 pin DIN jack. DIN
plugs and jacks are arranged so that many of the low pin count plugs fit
the larger pin count jacks. Its that way on purpose. And makes the pin
numbering of the 5 and 8 pin jacks confusing because the first 3 pins of
the 5 and 8 pin jack are numbered in the same order and position as a 3
pin jack, then 4 and 5 fit in gaps.

There ARE two 8 pin arrangements, one that accepts 5 pin, one that
doesn't. Those also have the top pins next to the locating key spaced
(for a switch on Kenwood accessory jacks) which makes the 8 pins be more
in a U shape and has the pins uniformly around a circle. And there's two
arrangements of 5 pin with different pin spacing angles.
