Because it is not a damped wave which is what the old spark gap rigs put out. The dot or dash would start out at full amplitude and then start decaying or damping at a rate not to exceed a certain amount. The new tube rigs put out waves whose amplitude did not vary during a dot or dash, hence they were called "continuous waves." That is why it is called CW . . . actually a form of amplitude modulation. 73/72, George Amateur Radio W5YR - the Yellow Rose of Texas Fairview, TX 30 mi NE of Dallas in Collin county EM13QE "In the 57th year and it just keeps getting better!" <mailto:w5yr@att.net> ----- Original Message ----- From: "WILLIAM MANSEY" <wa2pvk@msn.com> To: <tentec@contesting.com> Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2003 10:03 AM Subject: Re: [TenTec] New and Coming 60 meter channels > CW?
