The element in the mike can usually be changed out for a Heil element.  One
conversion piece said to mount the Heil element on a cardboard disk to
prevent unwanted back response, and maximize the front end.  It may require
more mike gain than the TT mike.
that power mod for front panel could be done with a dual shaft dual pot, if
you could find one small enough to fit the space, thus retaining mike gain
and power control.
