Hi Eric -

After reading your post I went to the LDG web site to look over the specs 
of their new AT-1000. I was disappointed to see that it is rated for only 
750 watts on CW and 1000 watts on SSB (500 watts RTTY). I believe the Model 
253 was rated for the legal max output; so that would be a major difference.

I found it curious that LDG would even bother to build a "high power" tuner 
that stopped short of being able to handle the legal max power. It's not 
exactly clear, but apparently the power-handling capability is limited by 
the relays they are using.
