You have a defective fan. I can't hear mine over the rx noise. might try
oiling the fan

Subject: [TenTec] Argonaut V and fan

Hi-
I have a Ten Tec Argonaut V with the fan kit. I use the rig on CW and
PSK. I am not much of a SSB operator. The fan is mounted on the the
back of the heat sink. The circulating air flows thru the fins of the
heat sink and then thru the fan. The heat sink fins are horizontal.
The vent holes in the cabinet are on the top and bottom of the
cabinet- I can not imagine much forced air flow inside the radio
caused by the fans, what is the problem?
My problem: I just like quiet radios. My other Ten Tec radios have
spoiled me: no fan noise, no fan.
My solution: A switch to shut the fan off when I am on CW.
My method: The fan kit has one three pin connector to connect to the
circuit board in the radio. The center pin is voltage to the fan. I
cut that wire and soldered each end to a suitable length of same sized
insulated wires. I was then able run these wires inside a slightly
larger piece of insulation (so as to minimize any possible wear in 20
years) and then run the wires out the existing hole for the power
connector. I located a small SPST switch and fashioned a place to
mount it on the rear panel next to the heat sink. The switch and its
mounting are, of course, individual problems.

I am not a fan of fan noise in switching power supplies or computers
either...but hey! I will adapt.
