I have for sale my Centurian amplifier for $1250, plus shipping from
Ten-Tec. I just sent it to Ten-Tec for service. One of the fuses in the
240-volt AC lines blew and I sent to TT for analysis. Turns out that one of
the tubes was bad, so I have authorized TT to replace the existing tubes
with two new matched 3-500s. In addition, when the amplifier was designed,
it was designed so that the 3-500s would continuously draw about 200 mils.
Ten-Tec has a mod for the amplifier that, when installed, biases the tubes
completely off-thus preserving tube life. I ordered that modification also.
The bad news for me is that I have to sell the amplifier to pay for the
service. Unfortunately, this repair comes at a bad time for me-my daughter
is getting married in June, plus, my oldest son is graduating from college
in May and my youngest son is graduating from high school on June 2.
(Luckily, this only happens once in my life!)
So here's the deal: for $1250 plus shipping from Sevierville, I will
instruct TT to send the amplifier to you. You get a freshly serviced
amplifier with two new matched 3-500s and the biasing mod described above. I
will pay for all repairs. Incidentally, cosmetically the Centurian is in
very good condition. There is some very, very small paint chipping under
the screw heads that hold the cover on, but other than that, it's just about
like new.
If you're interested, you can reach me evenings at 651-457-2916. The repair
is going to be finished on Friday or Monday, so I need to know soon whether
anyone on the reflector wants it. Leave a message if I'm not home-my son
plays basketball on Tuesday and Friday nights. I usually check my email all
day long, so you can also reach me at jkoppi@pclink.com. Don't worry about
calling late; I'm usually up until 11:30 p.m. to midnight CST.
Sorry for the long note.
