I need some help understanding this concept. Can you explain further?

My two cents,
Most rigs simply connect mono audio into stereo headphone jacks, wired
in parallel. Both transducer diaphrams move in unison (outward or
inward) exactly together. This produces the effect of the audio source
being heard in the center of the head.
A stereo connection can be manipulated phase-wise to create the feeling
of different locations. A completely out of phase connection gives quite
an odd effect. Try it.
