A friend of mine who is a "casual contester" owns both a Yaesu 1000MP
and a Mark V 1000MP and was very interested in purchasing an Orion
after the first announcements and pictures came out . He was willing to
live with the monochrome display but after his "hands on" experience
with the Orion at Dayton he has decided to stick with Yaesu.
His reasons :
"Homebrew like appearance" (most notably the back of the rig).
Poor knob placement. (He specifically mentioned a PBT or bandwidth knob
as being difficult to operate).
Cheap feeling main tuning knobs. (I've always wondered why Ten Tec cannot
make a rig with a decent main tuning knob such as one on ANY of the
competition.)

I wish them a lot of luck. They may need it.
The Argonaut V was supposed to sell for $600 and is now $800.
I wonder how much the Orion will actually cost whenever it is available ?
