As a happy Centurion owner for the past 7 or 8 months I can state for the
record that it's a great amp to have. I did a lot of looking around before
I bought mine and it was the best and best value in its class. If you have
to have 1.5 kw keydown amp okay, get something else and be prepared to pony
up over $3K but if you can do what you want to do with 1 to 1.2 Kw and no 30
minute monologs on the air this is the way to go. The Centurion comes
standard with some things that are expensive extras on other 3-500 amps such
as qsk and in-rush protection. The metering is great. It's very forgiving
of first-time amp owner operator boo boos. And the tubes are not too
expensive compared to what's in other amps. (You also get to look in
through the vent holes at the plates.)
Speaking of value, I was in a qso today on 20 meters with a guy running
Yaseu and kenwood and I complained a little about the $98 charge for the new
TT speakers. He told me that's actually a pretty good deal and that the
Kenwood speakers are around $150. Is $98 about right for a speaker in a box
with a grille? Tnx & 73,
Rob Atkinson
