Turning down RF gain cheating? NOT AT ALL. That is good SSB operating practice and can be used on any mode when strong nearby signals take over your receiver. It is something that is sadly not taught in ham classes and should be on tests. You should operate your receiver with minimum RF gain on SSB to maintain clear intelligibility.
