Since not all signals have this characteristic, it is possible that you
are hearing phase noise on the transmitted signal. Some transceivers
are noiser than others and narrow bandwidth filters tend to
emphasize phase noise, especially if they have sharp skirts.
Listen to a crystal controlled rig or one of the non-synthesized rigs
like a Corsair, or Omni D or Delta or Triton or ............well, you get the
picture. If you do not notice the fuzziness on those signals, you can
be pretty sure your rig is OK. Of course, if you rig is a Paragon
Pegasus or Jupiter, you will have a certain amount of phase noise in
your receiver. But since you say "...not all received signals
> display the condition...", that would tend to rule out noise on your
end.
