Rick, I have both the built-in LDG tuner and a 238.
For high VSWR the separate tuner works better
since it has a separate ground.
I have not noticed a big difference in performance
between the 238 and the built-in tuner.
Maybe I have a much better grounding system than
you.
When I use a amp the 238 is needed.
