WD-40 may be not the worst thing for loosening up the hardened grease,
if its in the vernier, but you won't be able to spray enough from the
front to loosen the grip of the slug's nut on the threads. Better open
it up a little and apply something to soften the grease. The slug could
break off if its nut is stuck.
There have been reports of fixing a little bit sticky Tentec PTO's with
a teflon based spray. It didn't help mine that was worn badly, but a
rebuild kit fixed it up just fine.
