Usually, altering AGC is simply a matter of changing the value of a resistor setting the time constant with a cap in the AGC circuit.  Look at the schematic to identify the timing determining components and try a pot first, to see if you like a particular setting, then measure the pot setting that was optimum, and place the nearest standard value in its place.
