Congratulations on becoming a ham and sending such a finely sounding and
heartfelt request for information. My suggestion is that you approach
finding an Omni VI+ the same way you selected your saxaphone. Someone nearby
you has all the answers, and maybe is selling one. Someone as expert as
yourself in what you do is as involved with radio electronics and fine radio
gear. Perhaps someone in the local club, or the guy everybody sends their
rigs to, who isnt in the club but everyone knows or has heard of his skills.
My one concern is that if you select the Omni VI+ first, how will you know
to compare? I mean really know. If you examine the ten tec line, gear that
are not current model, for example, you begin to see,
hear and understand how the new radio relates to the older one. But all are
