Ken is using the noise blanker for exactly the purpose they serve, narrow
bandwidth pulse noise. They work on ignition noise, fence chargers, some static
maybe a little lightening at long distances and nothing else. If you don't have
ignition noise, lightening, static, fence chargers in your area then you
probably will never hear any effect of using the noise blanker. I have one in
my Omni V and Scout and the only time I have had any effective result in using
them is with some of the old generators used during field day and running the
scout mobile. Other than that, don't expect any usefullness from them during
general on the radio table usage.
To test your noise blanker bring your gas lawnmower, your gas weedwacker and
your gas leaf blower into the radio shack, start them all up at the same time
and see if the noise blanker blanks the ignition noise from your lawn
equipment. If you don't hear any ignition noise with all of the motors running
at full throttle then the noise blanker is probably working just fine. Oh! You
should probably do this when your wife is out shopping.
