You might try simply backing off on the RF Gain a bit (to about 2-3 o'clock
position).
In DX Pileups and in contests, I notice very little or no received signal
strength difference by backing down the RF gain to reduce background noise.
Heck, 99.999% of the time, the desired signal is well above the noise level.
Even some of the weaker JA's and Euro's in the 10m contest (CW) who still
managed to hear my 5 watts were not affected by the reduced RF Gain.
It sure made for a very comfortable and nearly-noise free contest.
