Its generally necessary to use a connection direct to the discriminator
output for 9600 baud data. The data can't stand the phase shift
introduced by the deemphasis network and by other random phase shifts in
audio stages. Even then a lot of radios have filters with bad phase
responses near the passband edges that destroy 9600 baud data.
