Caitlyn;
Most, if not all transverters I have seen have input power "limitations". I
have used a Ten Tec 1208 transverter with my omni VI/3 for about 5 years and
on more than one occasion I have accidentally dumped 100 watts into it and
it shows no ill affects from these lapses of concentration on my part. The
input load resistors got very hot on one occasion but the unit still
functions as well as ever did. It was also a lot of fun to build.
I too am waiting for the 526 to debut and am willing to wait even longer.
Stay away from the Japanese stuff! It's bad for your health (when trying to
repair it or get it repaired) and it's bad for the country. :)

Subject: [TenTec] Transverter questions
Hi, everyone,
Since there is no Ten Tec 526 yet, and since I'd really like to do an all
American-made (or even all Ten Tec) station, I'll admit I've thought about
buying Ten Tec transverters. The problem I have is this: isn't the input
limited to 5 watts. If I accidentally leave my Argosy in the high power
position, won't I blow it up? I'm enough of a space cadet sometimes to not
want to set up a situation where an innocent moment of forgetfulness (which
I am *very* capable of) takes me off 6 meters, or any other band.
Regards,
Caity
(who will likely use a separate, Japanese, 6 meter rig)

> The unit is tuned for the CW & SSB portion of 6 meter band.
> Works great, with manual. $90. post paid
