According to the Centurion manual, Chapter 3, page 3-1, the transformer
is a tape wound Hypersil(R) weighing 35 lbs. Getting 1,500 watts out of
a pair 3-500z's is really pushing the envelope. The Ameritron AL-82 does
it by using 3.1 to 3.2 KV on the anodes. The Centurion supply delivers
2.5 to 2.6 KV. These voltages are measured "under load". Getting 1,500
watts out might be done but you may well exceed the max grid current
rating of the tubes in doing so with the lower Anode voltage. Be happy
with the rated 1,000 watts on CW and 1,300 watts PEP on SSB. Your tubes
and, in the long run, your pocket book will be happier.
