Proper float voltage for a 6 cell lead acid battery is 14.2 volts. 13.8,
the typical supply output is a bit low, not high at all.
You might want to charge through a diode to keep the power supply from
running the battery down when off, then you want to raise the supply
voltage to about 14.8 to keep the battery at full charge.
