I cut these from a current thread off rec.radio.shortwave. Thought they
might be of interest to potential RX-320 or Pegasus owners.
I'm considering the RX 320 and I'd like to hear from any owners of this
receiver out there-any comments, good or bad are solicited. Thanks Van K6QGH
I can't say anything bad about mine! Love it! The problem is making the
transistion from a tuning knob to the virtual image on the screen.
I can not think of a product in the last 20 years that matches the
statement "you just can't go wrong" as much as this one. It is much more
product and performance then it's price would indicate, especially with
the 3rd party software.
I have had mine for three months now and am very pleased with the RX320,
it's
a bunch of radio for the buck and some great control software is being
developed by some individuals.
I can only add to the kudos for this wonderful rig. Yes, you can spend more.
A lot more. And if portability is critical to you, you'll need a laptop. But
the RX-320 is an amazing radio at a fantastic price. My advice is not to
wait for the sync detector...get one now and enjoy the thing and hope
Ten-Tec (as rumored) will add sync later.
Brian is right...the third-party software beats Ten-Tec's own. Download the
free ILG databases (get your password first) at <http://ilg.de/>
then try Clifton's great freeware program at
<http://pages.prodigy.net/kf5oj/KF5OJ.htm> and see what you can do with this
rig!
I bought one six months ago and since that time I've totally ignored my
Kenwood 5000 and NRD 545DSP receivers. Alot of fascination is the blending
of computer and the relatively small receiver. I also find using some of
the third-party software programs useful and switch between the three. The
only problem I experienced was a blown front-end FET (antenna input) which
was repaired and sent back within five days. I was told all the new units
being shipped had the diode protection modification.
John: When did you purchase your radio? When did Ten-Tec move to the
diode protection? I bought mine in late February.
Van, You can't go wrong with this rig. I am very impressed with it.
One of the best, if not the best Radio I have owned....
And I have had Many. Got mine about a year ago
I received mine at 7:00 PM today. I just had supper and then it took me
10 minutes to set up and load the software. [Mostly on the floor
crawling behind my tower case with a flashlight trying to see the serial
and line input ports]. Loaded software. Worked instantly.
I'm now listening to the BBC while I write this - it's running in the
background. I also caught Germany and Egypt. I'm using just the whip
attena that comes with it and it's sitting on top of my PC.
I have a Sony SW-7600G. I used it for 2 years. Look for it on e-bay real
soon.
PS - I'm also a HAM. The review in QST convinced me that it was better
for HF over the Icom PCR-1000. They were right.
None of these comments are mine. Also, there were no negative comments!
