Most any electronics that is not originally intended for mobile service can be
beefed up to survive the application.

I have equipment where I have installed stick on rubber pads on top of card
extractors to force the cards to be held between the top of chassis and the
socket. It took a couple thicknesses of stick ons, but held up to military
Aircraft (transport) use.

We have mounted equipment to a plate with a seat belt, and then glued the
aluminum plate to a foam sheet to act as a shock mount. Be sure to pick a
foam to not resonate the radio at the common vibration frequencies of the car.
You know you hit resonance, when the radio case is continually shaking, or it
continues to shake after hitting a bump.

In theory, then, if you take the time and a little effort, you should be able
to use an Omni 6 on road at least. Now on oil field roads, or other off road
situations, might be a problem!

good luck,
Stuart K5KVH
