I have a TT Centaur amplifier that is wonderful..and top
quality.... unfortunately driven by a Rice Radio. ( I really didn't know
better at the time). From time to time I work
DX with my friend AE4TF who is 10 miles away. He uses a
Scout, we both have vertical antennas, mine is the better antenna system.
Last nite we both worked UA0FDX on 20
ssb. The SCOUT received the sigs much better than my
Rice Radio, I finially heard the station well enough to work,
and cracked the pileup with one call using the amp.
But it was an effort.. my receiver just wouldn't hardly pull
in the DX station..yet I could hear the DX station on the
telephone from my friends QTH. The message was loud
and clear....next purchase will be a Ten Tech..
Any suggestions for a used rig slightly under the cost of a new Omni VI?
( For you purists, please note that I use an
isolator between the transceiver and amplifier so the Amp
won't be contaminated with Rice Rash).
And many thanks to AE4TF for assisting with DX and showing me the way to
true ham radio adventure!
