Another way to check your 250Hz filter is to tune the rig to a fairly
strong continuous CW tone - usually the hetrodyne from an AM shortwave
station on 40 meters works well. Then with the 250Hz filter selected adjust
the passband tuning to get the maximum S-meter reading. I found that the
250Hz filter in my VI+ has the least amount of attenuation, less than 1
S-unit, at approximately the 11 o'clock position. But at the "normal" 12
o'clock position, it would be down 2-3 S-units.
