Thanks for the many suggestions received in resolving the problem which
caused 1st: The two line fuses to blow, 2nd: The soft start fuse (F3)
to blow.
A summary of the suggestions are listed here:
1. Contact TenTec
2. Check transformer for shorts
3. Check HV diode bridge and filter capacitors for shorts
4. Check 10 ohm, 25 watt resistor sitting behind tuning
capacitor.
5. Gassy tube(s).
The small carbon "smudge" between the HV Secondary AC leads "E" and "F"
on the HV rectifier board appears to have been the problem. A alcohol
soaked Q-tip was used to clean this area and the black was taken off of
the insulation of the red HV AC leads near the board. The wires were
resoldered and a coating of "glyptal" HV Corona dope (made by GC) was
placed over the soldered connections. All of the above suggestions were
considered and checked out. This problem occurred at a bad time for
contacting TenTec. There Titan man had left, and they were in the
process of bringing a new man on board. I discussed this with Gary
Green while at Dayton. I had called up TenTec and talked to Paul who
stated that the smudge was the result of 1: Lightning or 2: a power
surge and thought the transformer would prove to be the problem.
During this trouble-shoorting exercise I was able to answer my other
questions...the purpose of K-2..I found that K-2 works in conjunction
with the Low-High voltage switch on the front of the power supply panel
and when energized adds the additional HV winding in series with the
main HV winding thus increasing the total HV. These contacts are not
shown on the AC board schematic (in my manual).
My Titan is back in business and although covered under Warranty, I
didn't have to remove the transformer and pack up the equipment to send
to TenTec.
