Having been long time Scout user and tinker, I have followed the
description of the various methods of easy Scout QRP. Most have
centered on using a switch and resistor to toggle between 4 or 5 watts
and full power. What if you want to set at 10 watts or 25 watts? This
system will not work. Instead I obtained a small piece of rigid plastic
from a small parts plastic tray, cut it into a narrow strip and glued
one end to the top of the power level potentiometer on the bottom of the
Scout. I made the strip narrow enough so that it will protrude slightly
through the hole in the bottom shell where one normally inserts the
screw driver to vary the power. Now this small tab can be turned easily
with the rig on it's side and the desired level of power can be
precisely set. If the rig were up on blocks, one could even adjust the
level without moving the radio. To return to stock condition, one needs
to merely remove the small piece of plastic.
Good luck and happy QRPing!!!
