Let me pass this info on to those of you who don't know.
Ten-Tec used to sell the Model 305 serial level converter
for $46 which allowed you to interface your computer to the
OMNI V or VI via the radio's 2-pin serial output, thereby
saving the 25-pin connector for other things. Like so many
other things, they discontinued it. Ten-Tec told me that I
could use an ICOM CT-10 level converter (Ten-Tec and ICOM
use the same interface), but I haven't been able to find
one, and ICOM's level converters are quite expensive. But
if anyone is interested and doesn't know, the February 1993
QST has the level converter you need ("Everything you
Always Wanted to Know About Hardware for Computer-
Controlling Modern Radios", by AA8DX). Don't know whether
the kit and pc board are still available, but you could
still do the construction from scratch.
