        Clark,

I think you have a good idea here!

I had similar problem with my Corsair.  It was 20 db down in signal as 

one of the filters went bad.

It was 20db down on 2.4 SSB filter but fine on 1.8 filter.

I removed top cover and applied pressure and tapped on each filter until
        
I came to life.

I problem returned! I then pulled filter and re soldered each Xtal

to circuit board.

Now all is well.
