Greetings and a question for Ten-Tec et al gurus !!
=20
I have an Argonaut 515 that is exhibiting behavior that makes me think
that the rig may need adjustment/alignment.
When tuning up my antenna with the mode switch in the lock position,
I am able to adjust the drive control for 5 Watts and tune up the
antenna with either of two tuner/power meter configurations (an MFJ949E
and a Ten-Tec 227 tuner and HW-9 power meter combo - both setups exhibit
the same behavior differences based upon the mode switch setting used =
for
tuneup).
However, when I switch to normal CW mode for operation, sometimes I =
get=20
no power output indication on the RF light or 515 FWD/REV meter and must =
=20
turn the drive up further to get an indication of output.
One workaround for me has been to use the keyer in the on position
to adjust power output and tune the antenna. Tuner control positions=20
require no adjustment compared to the lock position of the 515 mode =
switch
(indicating a tuned system) but the 515 drive position is higher =
adjusting the=20
rig this way. E.g., when tuning with the mode switch in lock, the drive =
=20
setting for 5W to the tuner is around 7, where as with the keyer on, the =
=20
drive setting must be around 7.75 to get 5W - remembering that using the =
=20
lock position results in little, less, or no output when keying.
Is this a problem ?? If it is, do you think it is an indication that
the SSB modulator needs adjustment or is there a problem with the
Final Amp section?? The only difference I see in the circuitry between
CW and lock modes live in the SSB modulator circuit??
thanks,
john
