You are right on! - 1000Watts is possible, OK 600Watts will do just
fine, via transistors that are on the market today. This is not new
technology - pickup any Motorola RF data book and higher voltage
devices are there for your pickin. Sell the switch mode power supply
built, would not want anyone getting fingers in the rough stuff - and
make the amp the kit.
Sounds like time for TT to get creative.

Who says you have to use 13.8 volts? Why not 24, 28 or 50 volts?
(Provided the high-power transistors can handle it)
As for transformers -- can you say switching power supplies? That solves
part of the transformer problem.

Higher voltage transistors is in no way more complicated.

Tubes aren't getting any cheaper. At some point, we'll reach the
watershed where a solid state devices are a better alternative. (We may
have to wait until someone produces 500W MMICs....)
