On November 22, I sent this query to the Ten-Tec Reflector:
I am considering adding a Model 301 Remote Frequency Tuning Control to =
my desktop for my Omni VI. =20
Anyone have:
1. Positive things to say about it?=20
2. Negative things to say about it?=20
3. One to sell?=20

I've got one setting right here on the op desk Dale. It's a very smooth =
feeling knob that works perfectly. $50 is a typical price for one if you =
can find it. 73

Seems to work well enough.
Cord isn't very long.
Cord IS coily.
Extension serial cable doesn't seem to work...
Not selling mine.

No negatives. It works well for me. I have it next to my paddles.=20
Positioned that way, I can tune and send with my right hand. I operate =
the
rest of the radio controls with my left hand. To prevent an unintended =
QSY
caused by inadvertently bumping the tuning control, I push the lock =
button on
the radio when I am in a QSO.=20

They are great! I use it for contesting all the time. If you can find =

>From Scott Cowling, WA2DFI:
I have a 301 tuning control, and I like it.
Positive points:
1. When S&P contesting, you can have the tuning control next to your
keyboard. I don't like tuning via keyboard, the knob is better.
2. For casual band tuning, you can sit back in the chair and tune =
around.
3. I like the feel of the knob better than the main tuning on the rig.
Negative points:
1. The cord is too %^&*% short :-)
2. It takes a little practice to NOT reach for the main dial to tune! =
(like in the middle of the SS when your brain is off and your fingers =
are on autopilot.)
3. Since it plugs into the "RS-232" connector, if you use computer =
control you either have to make your own "Y" cable or buy TenTec's. =
This really is minor, since you only have to solve it once.
I recommend it - I won't sell you mine! :-)))

I'm convinced. Thanks to all who responded. If I receive more comments, =
I will send another summary.=20
If anyone has one for sale, get in touch with me, please.=20
