Subject: Fw: TR LOG on an XP Machine
Hi Tree -
Thanks for confirming my subscription, but I was just rejected again -"You must
be subscribed to post to the TR-Log list". Perhaps I need to wait a while for
the machine to catch up. It's just that I'm a bit itchy to get things working.
Good Luck if you're going for the contest this weekend !

Subject: TR LOG on an XP Machine
Thanks to Tree's exceedingly gracious help, although I'm scarsely computer
literate, I now have TR LOG for the most part working on my newer XP machine.
Using aother older XP machine which happens to have 3.5" drive I transferred
the installation information to a flash drive and got it setup on the newer XP.
When it came up I went through the contest setup proceedure with a directory of
LOG\(8 character program name) . Everything seemed to work right at that point
and it seemed to perform all of the normal contest functions including - dupe
check, partial calls,bearing/distance, etc. END of, or pause in contest also
seemed ok as long as I dummied in more than a screenfull of contacts (necessary
to confirm the ALT-U screen flush). It seems as though on the old DOS machine
the directory chain included "contests" between LOG and contest name. I don't
find anything about that in the old instruction book but I tried it anf it made
no diffeernce.
I am now left with two problems that I am aware of -
1. At the end of my dummie contest, after doing the ALT-X/Y and END of
CONTEST/Y It goes to LOG and allows all of the POST programs, but after I close
th computer down and then come back, ready to set up a new contest, after I
have made and changed directory to LOG\(8 Character NEW Contest name) I try to
enter TR and it just goes to my previous contest screen, not to the contest
setup routine. After many tries of slightly different flavors I still go only
to the old screen. I conclude that either I'm doing something wrong or there is
an XP glich that I need to learn how to handle. I'm hoping that, and quite
likely, I'm doing something wrong since everything else seems tro be working OK.
2. In the setup process they want to know what port my radio is on.
Unfortunately I have two items that each want a serial port of which there were
plenty on the old DOS machine. The newer machine has only one. Is there any
such thing as a 9 pin db serial to USB adaptor, or a 9 pin db splitter with a
way to keep the addressing straight ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
