Here's an interesting experiment I tried a while back with trlog:
The K2 (and maybe other recent radios?) allows you to send cw by sending an
ascii string to the radio over the RS-232 interface. I tried using this method
to send the cw function keys in trlog, and it works quite well (latency is low
enough). The cw speed is adjusted with the pot on the K2 panel, but could also
probably be changed with a remote command. A paddle can be connect directly to
the K2 for manual sending. You do lose the cw keyboard in tr doing this.
The point of doing this is for running TR in Windows or Linux where cw timing
is an issue.
However, there was one major problem...there is no cw message in trlog to send
your callsign! Is there a "secret" message name for the callsign? Or is sending
the callsign handled separately from the function and exchange keys? It would
also be great to be able to have ESC send the "kill cw" command (I did do this
with a separate function key and it worked fine).
One other issue to to work out an interlock to prevent transmitting
simultaneously in So2R, but I imagine that can be fixed with a small external
circuit.
