It's been a few years since I tried TR using DOSemu under linux. I tried
it again tonight, and it appears to run flawlessly! Including cw paddle
and radio interface! This is on a 100% no-Microsoft-product computer.
Here's my setup:
Computer:
Athlon Tbird 1 GHz, 512 MB ram
distro: Mandrake 9.0 (2.4.19 kernel)
Dosemu ver 1.1.99, compiled from source tarball. Using FreeDos
DOS kernel from Dosemu site.
Radio: K2 on COM1
Paddle, cw output: LPT1
I'm running X-windows (xdosemu). The cw keying and radio interface seem
very solid, I haven't seen any hiccups while sending cw yet. The only
minor glitch is that the FreeDos time comes up as local time, not UTC. But
you can reset the DOS time inside Dosemu without changing the regular
system time. I also need to check over a longer time to make sure the
program doesn't "lose" time like when run under NT, but in my testing, it
looks ok so far.
I haven't tried two radios yet, but don't see any reason that wouldn't
work. My linux computer is downstairs, so I just carried one radio down
to test.
It is way cool to see TRlog on my X-desktop, coexisting with emacs, etc! I
may actually try to use this in a real contest. I'll post some more info
later about config files, but I encourage other Linux users to give it a
try.
