Jim,
Get some two-wire with shield cabling and build your own. Use metal or
metalized hoods, and eliminate this from your list of RFI worries.

Thanks everyone. It was the cable. I ended up with a db9 to db25 with
2 gender benders cascaded to get what I needed. My new problem is that
the radio is now so far away from the wall behind my desk that there is
no room for the keyboard in front of it. Sigh. Well, I have something
for tomorrow and, now I know the Radio Shack part number, I will be able
to get something less cumbersome.
