Hello again fellow TR-ists.
[Note - This post got longer than I meant for it to be. If you've not
manually added a contest nor are interested in doing so, please save
yourself some time and click 'delete' now. Apologies up front...please
- no flames.]
As I've delved into the stuff to add to my logcfg.dat file, I've rapidly
come to realize that I have no idea how to get TR to do my bidding, at
least not all the way for this particular contest. Part of my problem
is just lack of familiarity with how some of the canned contests
(already supported in TR) work in the mult and point departments.
Further, I don't know if the SARTG test patterns itself after something
which TR may already understand (like CQ WW) or if it goes off and does
its own thing.
Referring frequently to the rules (
http://home.online.no/~janalme/htmlrules/sartg.html ) and to the latest
TR manual, I have gotten this added to my logcfg.dat file:
CONTEST = CQ WW <--wrong, I know but had to put something there
DOMESTIC MULTIPLIER = SARTG.DOM <--call areas in JA, VK, VE and W
count as mults
DX MULTIPLIER = ARRL DXCC WITH NO ARRL SECTIONS <--fairly confident
this is OK
PREFIX MULTIPLIER = NONE <--pretty sure this is OK, too
ZONE MULTIPLIER = NONE <--ditto
QSO POINT METHOD = FIVE POINTS PER QSO <--each Q worth at least this
much
EXCHANGE RECEIVED = RST QSO NUMBER <--fairly confident this is OK
I think that I'm on my way but I need to seek guidance and wisdom in a
few areas. To wit:
Domestic Mult line - I rolled 'sartg.dom' in a text editor with lines
like 'Ja0 = ' for all of the JA, VK, VE and W call areas but what came
after the = stumped me. It seemed as though each line in JA and W could
be very long: Ja0 = JA0, JB0, JC0 ... JS0 and W0 = W0, K0, N0, AA0, KB0,
KC0 ... NZ0. Is this the correct approach? If so, I'll be happy to
plod along and add all this stuff, but that just seemed more complicated
than it needed to be.
QSO Point line - I couldn't find anything which told me how to score
other countries and continents. I did see in the manual that TR should
know my own country/continent based on my callsign but not knowing how
every contest in section 5.5.3 was scored, I didn't know what to plug in
as the value for this field.
I'm certain that I've left the door open to numerous other mistakes as
well. If you can point me in the right way, please do so. Sorry to
burn so much bandwidth on this. I know that WriteLog handles this
contest out of the chute as well as generating and decoding RTTY thru
the soundcard but I didn't have 75 spare bucks in the budget to throw at
more logging software at the moment and I felt like I could make TR do
what I needed it to. I have been wrong before, however (just ask my
wife :-).
Many thanks for any help and/or advice you wizard-types can provide,
even if it's along the lines of "save your nickles and dimes and buy
RTTY-specific logging software for those silly RTTY contests and use TR
for CW and SSB tests.
73,
Scott
