About I week ago I got a new computer. A super-dooper 400 MHz with most of
the bells and whistles. To my utter amazement and disappointment there was
a serious lack of IRQ's and only two serial ports that had to share one IRQ.
I began to look into a serial board made by FlexPort at about the same time
that Max George NG7M posted email regarding the ByteRunner PCI-800 8-port
serial board and a utility program he wrote called Setcomm. Setcomm allows
you to reset the serial addresses in the BIOS to the non-standard addresses
of the PCI-800 so TR can access them.
I purchased the PCI-800 largely because of Max's utility (saving over $70 of
an equivalent board) and the fact that I absolutely had to have TR
capability. The board works like a charm with all my Windows programs but I
had a major problem configuring it for TR. The problem was mostly my fault
and partially some other software I had loaded. I sent Max some emails and
he literally spent several hours guiding me through step-by-step until we
had figured it out. Again, it was no fault of Max's Setcomm program; just
some minor conflicts with some of my software and a major case of brain
cramps on my part.
I just want to publicly thank Max for taking the time to write the utility,
let TR users have it for free, and spending a lot of time helping me out.
Thanks Max!
