I absolutely agree!
I've used CT, NA, WriteLog, Log-EQF, and before them my own logging programs
developed on Data General NOVA 3's, 4's, and Eclipse machines in the "old"
days before PC's. I'm pretty computer literate since computer science has
been my occupation all these years.
I find TR to very slick, extremely versatile, and arguably the best contest
logger extant. I have not used it and I know several worldclass contestors
who don't use it precisely for this reason. I practiced with it during my
Christmas vacation in Breckenridge and could easily achieve very high rates
with the simulator, but when I take it to the real world, I often was in S&P
when I thought I was in CQ and vice-versa. Any change in the routine, i.e.,
repeats, edits, etc. lead to confusion in the heat of battle. TR used less
keystrokes than CT, and I especially like to send on x number of characters,
but I'm never sure what the Function are going to do, if any, when I go for
them. I blew so many exchanges in the short time I operated NA that it was
embarrassing.
A remappable keyboard and a simple key sequence to transfer from CQ to S&P
would work wonders for its ease of learning and use. I've tried for two
years to get our club members to use computer logging for Field Day and I've
finally gotten many to use CT. I know that TR is more feature rich, but
trying to teach them to use it would result in NIL.
With this one feature change, TR would get my 100% vote and support.
