In my opinion, for the .02 that's worth, digitally voiced serial numbers
are a non-starter. Back when DVPs were new, I slaved for weeks trying to
come up with recorded digits and digit pairs that would produce
intelligible serial numbers with CT's text-to-speech capability. Maybe I'm
not clever enough, but the best results were sufficiently unnatural that
they tended to throw people off in real-world contest circumstances. I
made several hundred QSOs in SS phone that way, and felt that it slowed me
down at least 20 percent because of people asking for fills.
