I have uploaded three new master callsign database files:

        ftp://boss.databook.com/AD1C/master.zip
        ftp://boss.databook.com/AD1C/masusve.zip
        ftp://boss.databook.com/AD1C/masterdx.zip

You can also send E-mail to ct-user-REQUEST@databook.com to request the
UUencoded version of these files, by putting one or more of the following
lines in the body of your message:

        GET master.uue
        GET masusve.uue
        GET masterdx.uue

MASTER.ZIP contains 14,663 calls that were found in 20 or more logs. 575
callsigns were replaced with new vanity callsigns.

MASUSVE.ZIP contains 8,496 calls that were found in 10 or more logs. This
file contains only USA, Canada and US territories and possessions. 833
callsigns were replaced with new vanity callsigns. Even if you include
the Canadians, this means that 10% of the calls in this file got new
vanity callsigns. Another way to look at it is that if 4000 vanity calls
were issued (my program counted 3381 personal and 409 club vanity
callsigns [*none* of which turned up in the MASTER database]), 20% of them
went to contestors!

MASTERDX.ZIP contains 15,957 calls that were found in 10 or more logs.
This file does NOT contain USA calls, but includes everyone else
(including Canada and US territories and possessions). No vanity calls
were substituted in this file.

A couple of notes:

1. You might wonder why I didn't set the threshold to 10 in the
MASTER.ZIP file. The answer is too many calls (over 23K)! If you type in
a couple or few letters, you don't want the Super Check Partial window to
stop at calls beginning with N. There's a 50/50 chance the call you're
looking for is outside the window! The DX and US/VE databases are
smaller, so I decided to allow more calls in them.

2. The vanity callsign substitution only matches on an *exact* callsign.
For example, if you always signed WN4KKN/6, that call will still be in the
MASTER.DTA file. However, if you always signed without the portable
(WN4KKN), that call was replaced by N5KO. I decided to err on the side of
caution, rather than accidentally substituting a bad call for a previously
good one (imagine if WN4K had turned into N5KOKN!). As I collect more and
more post-vanity contest logs, the new calls will filter in.

These files probably *won't* get on the CT BBS any time soon. I'm having
a problem with remote administration, and K1EA is not around long enough
for me to get his help.

Please send any comments or questions to AD1C@tiac.net

p.s. Feel free to contribute your contest logs to this project! I can
handle UUencoded or MIME attachments. The more logs, the more complete
the database will become!
