Very sorry to have missed last week. I think that is the first time I
have completely missed a week since I started doing these summaries
years ago. Weesie and I were in Tampa, FL Tuesday through Saturday and
I didn't have time to get it done on the laptop. So, these will be

This Week's Contests:
1. NCCC NS Thursday Night Practice. This week SNS and NS are again
combined, but with no same band dupes permitted. 0200-0259Z Friday
(Thursday night local). Limit speed to 26 WPM maximum for first 20
minutes. 100W power limit. One kHz QSY rule. Exchange: both calls,
#, name, SPC. Start on 20M around 40 kHz and work your way down to
around 7040, 3540, and then 1815 kHz. Mults count per band.
2. FOC QSO Party (formerly known as Bill Windle QSO Party). 24 hours
UTC of Saturday. 160-VHF CW. Exchange: RST, Name, FOC # if you have
one. Look around 025 kHz on each band. Good way to get your call known
if you would like to be nominated for FOC membership.
3. Stew Perry Top Band Challenge (October Edition). 15Z Sat to 15Z
Sun, 14 hours maximum time. 160M CW only. Exchange: 4 character grid
square.
4. W/VE Islands QSO Party. 16Z Sat to 2359Z Sun. CW, Ph, Dig. 160-6M.
Exchange: RS(T) + USI/CISA Designation or SPC. I think you
only work island stations.
5. Straight Key Century Club Sprint (SKS). 00-02Z Wednesday (Tuesday
night local time). 160-10M CW. Exchange: RST + Name + SPC + SKCC# or
power. Use mechanical key. Bonus station is KD5JHE in MS.
6. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Three different one-hour contests.
Wednesday local time. 1300Z, 1900Z and 0300Z (Thursday UTC). 160-10M
(note expansion from just three bands to six bands). Exchange: Name +
CWOps # or Name + SPC. Look around 028 kHZ on all bands. Maybe about
1815 kHz on 160M to stay away from the DX window. This is a good
opportunity to show interest in the CWOps club and maybe get nominated
for membership.
Remember that the next weekend will be the big CQ WW SSB Contest. There
will be a M/M at NQ4I, a M/S at WW4LL, and a M/S or M/2 at KY5R. And
several SECC members will be QRV from TI8M in Costa Rica. I hope they
have another great trip and contest down there. Should be a lot of fun
if the higher bands continue to be good.
I am still asking for more contributions toward raising $1,000 for SECC
to sponsor a tent for one of the stations at WRTC 2014 in New England.
Members of SECC have agreed to contribute $650.00 and I actually have
$100.00 in hand from K3LB. I'd hate to have to return Larry's check, so
we need a few more to volunteer contributions. Thanks.
Hope everyone has a nice week and weekend. 73, John, K4BAI.
