Hello everyone: I had a phone conversation with Paul Newberry, N4PN
this evening. He has been trying to help the widow of Gordon Rowe,
K4OD, formerly known as John Rowe, WB4MUR. Gordon was the brother of
Jim Rowe, K4BK, formerly K4FXU of Warner Robins, GA and Jacksonville,
FL, a SECC member who died about two years ago. Gordon was a great
supporter of SECC, SEDXC, and the Georgia QSO Party. He was a former
Fort Valley, GA police officer, who had been in bad health and in a
wheel chair. Gordon had come up with the idea to celebrate the 50th GQP
with one by one calls used to spell out G-E-O-R-G-I-A. This was to be
in memory of his late brother Jim and Mike, NE4S, says that it will now
be in memory of both Rowe brothers.
Paul reports that the Rowes had just been getting by financially and
Gordon had no health or life insurance. She will get nothing from
Gordon's Social Security or retirement since her Social Security was
higher than his was. Faye has no money for the funeral expenses. Paul
is going to inventory his radio equipment for her and will trying to get
a fair price for what equipment he had. He will be posting a list when
he has finished the inventory.
Paul has helped Faye set up an account at a bank in Macon. I am sending
a check tomorrow. Anyone else who would like to can send a check made
payable to Faye Rowe and send it c/o Leslie Carnegie, State Bank and
Trust Co., 3945 Pio Nono Avenue, Post Office Box 4748, Macon, GA 31208.
Thanks for your consideration. 73, John, K4BAI.
Charles (K4GK): Could you send this information to the GSN e-mail
list? Thanks.
