Patrick,
Thanks for your note.
I had not realized until now that, unfortunately, the 2010 CQP Rules
<http://www.cqp.org/pdf/cqp_2010_rules.pdf> omitted an important
statement about the minimum off-time, which can be found in the 2009 CQP
Rules <http://www.cqp.org/pdf/cqp_2009_rules.pdf>:
"Off times must be a minimum of 15 minutes and clearly marked in the log"
To answer your question, you can break up the 24-hours of operting time
any way you like, but to count as "off time", the breaks must be at
least 15 minutes long. In other words, if you have 10 minutes between
QSOs, you can't claim to have 9 minutes of "off time."
Typically, those hoping to operate the full 24-hours will operate for
about 12 to 13 hours straight, take a 6 hour break after midnight, then
get up early and operate the remainder of the contest.
If you wish to break it up more than that, you have to keep a careful
total of the total amount of operating time you are using up. It cannot
exceed 24 hours (QSOs made after 24 hours or operating time elapses will
not count).
Note that if you run out of operating time at the end of the contest, it
is OK to, say, skip the very last 10 minutes of the contest period (this
counts as a legal "off time" even though it is less than 15 minutes long).
Good luck in the CQP, and have fun!

Hi, Bob!
I have a question regarding the 24 hour limit for single op. I see
that the contest runs for 30 hours. Do we choose which 24 hours to
work? Can it be broken up (e.g., 6 straight, 6 hours off and then
18 hours straight) or does it have to be continuous? This is my 1st
contest. Thanks for much!
