WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM YOUR CLUB?

As mentioned last week, the SECC officers exchanged e-mails, discussing
whether there are any enhancements to the SECC that we could affect or
whether the membership is happy with the status quo. We are particularly
interested in generating greater membership participation in contests, but
we want to know if somehow, we can make membership in the SECC more
enjoyable.
We have no intention of changing anything in the constitution that would
remove any member from the roles of the SECC membership, even though the
constitution, as written, requires that members submit at least two scores
for SECC annually. However, we may want to consider some revision of that
provision.
What we will be doing is encouraging more membership participation in
contesting. We will be doing that positively, by rewarding recognition of
the members of this club who DO participate for the SECC.
We have a club membership of some 215 contesters in the SECC, however, less
than 10% actively submit scores in support of the club. We understand that
there are a multitude of reasons that one might not submit scores and what
we'd like to know, is there something more that you want out of your club?
Our ultimate goal is to give you what you wish so you'll WANT to participate
in more contests in support of YOUR club.
Some of the things the SECC officers have been discussing are:
1) Modify the Constitution so the Officer elections are held two months in
advance of them actually taking office. I, personally, found this to be very
useful in making the transition.
2) Establish quick access hyper-links with SM7CER and WA7MBN contest
calendars on the SECC website.
3) Establish links for contest-beginner FAQ's, providing useful information
for those who may want to get into contesting.
4) Provide a tutorial on the most popular contest software programs, such
as N1MM Logger, WriteLog, SD, etc.
5) Provide information about upcoming webinars. What are they? How do you
sign up for one? Provide notification and links for SECC sponsored
webinars.
6) Establish a "SECC Contester of the Year" award for the person who has
the highest cumulative contest scores from August 1, 2010 to August 1, 2011.
7) Establish a "SECC Member of the Year" award for the member who Elmer's
the most hams into contesting.
8) Establish an informal social meeting at the Byron, Ga. (near Macon) ham
fest. (May 2011)
9) The SECC is primarily a reflector club. Meaning all information is
distributed via the reflector and it therefore makes sense to highly
recommend that each member join the SECC reflector.
While these are some of the issues we have been discussing, nothing has been
decided yet as we want to hear from the members on how or what they think
the officers and the membership can do to enhance the enjoyment of the club.
What do you think needs to be done, if anything at all? We need to hear from
you, hopefully within the next 30 days so we can serve the club membership
as the majority desires.
