TopBanders, Contesters, DXers and others,
The time has come to shake out the station! This weekend the warm-up
for the Stew Perry TopBand DX Challenge will arrive.
The warm-up uses the very same rules as the real Stew Perry Test, which is
in December. Those rules and a bunch of other good stuff
live on at http://jzap.com/k7rat/stew.html This is a low pressure way
to get on the air, shake out the bugs, see how your system works
and make some Q's. If you're a tad shaky with The Morse then this is a fine
way to get some excellent experience. If you've put up a new
antenna this can show you how it plays. If you've filtered your spiffy new
radio up to the gills then you can hear how it really now works under
combat conditions.
Unlike the real Stew Perry Contest there are not plaques or cool
things
to capture if you do well. This is like a full game scrimmage before
the real event. We'd like you to submit your log shortly after the warm-up
and the results will be published on the net before The real Stew
happens in December.
The real heros of this contest are the Stalwarts who donate a measly
$55 to The Boring Amateur Radio Club to sponsor a plaque for a
category that they feel is important or notable. The early donors and
categories for the 14th Running of The Stew Perry TopBand DX
Challenge are listed below.

KL7RA Highest number of QSO's
F8BPN Top Score Low Power Europe
N7UA Top Score High Power
K6ND K6SE Memorial- Top Score World
K7FL Top Score 100% Search and Pounce
N7KQ Top Score Central/South America
N0TT Top Score Low Power Minnesota
DX Engineering Top Score USA
DX Engineering Top Score Hi-Power Europe
KH6LC VK-ZL CHallenge- Top Score VK/ZL

You can join this august group by submitting a category to us and then
sending the $55. All categories must be in reasonably good taste
and should be able to pass the Family Hour test. Submissions are screened by
The Boring Amateur Radio Club Committee on Plaque Ideas whose
decisions are final.
So remember that the warm-up is this Saturday and you should fire up
and join the fray. The 160M band has been fruitful with DX and you should
come pick some of the juicy things that may show up. This will also give
you something to do while searching for that last band/mode you need for
the K4M DXpedition. Also do go to the website and read about this contest
which uses distance instead of countries as the "multiplier".
See you in the Stew Warm-up!
      73 and I remain,
      Lew W7EW/W7AT
