There was a discussion on the cq-contest reflector recently comparing
exchange and scores between 1958 and today.

The biggest difference is that most now run at or near the legal limit
whereas in 1958 most ran 150 watts or less INPUT not output. There was a
power multiplier and if you wanted to win you ran 150 watts.

Consider, if you cannot work virtually everything with a 100 watt output
exciter (more than the 150 watt input of 1958) then I contend something is
wrong.

If everyone ran 100 watts out the QRM level would be cut 10DB with everyone
competiting on an equal level. In the SS the ham with a tri-bander and
perhaps a 40 meter beam at less than 60 feet can compete. Look at K6LL for
inspiration. K4BAI has the tri-bander but wires on 80. 40, and 160.

Just wishing!
